How is Obama evil in regards to the gulf oil spill?

I ask because I’ve seen this remark elsewhere. I’m curious as to what sorts of solid evidence/arguments there really are, because I’m in the dark on this one. I normally try to avoid these sorts of discussions on here because they’re so easy to get sucked into, but I welcome all mature and sincere debate from all sides.
Good point about inconsistency with mining vs. Drilling, but I would argue that perhaps further caution with mining isn’t necessarily a bad idea either. Has the cessation of drilling hurt the people of the gulf? I’ll admit I’m a bit I’ll-informed with that part of it all.

I wouldn’t call him evil, just ill mannerd. He has no regard to the people of the gulf. Not bad enough that an oil rig caught fire, killed 11 men, and ruin the fishing waters around the gulf. He stopped drilling for 6 months to find ways to make drilling safer. Its BULL**IT. How many times have coal miners had accidents that left 11 or more people dead. They still mine. I understand environmentallyl effects of the oil in the water. I’m living with it every day. Instead of cleaning the shit or stepping aside and letting the Governors of the states affected, he has put up red tape and have kill any hopes of keeping the oil contained.. I really think he in Washington getting a big old laugh of the Stupid Americans

How can I counter people that are against genetic engineering in a debate?

I’m doing a debate in science on the team "pro genetic engineering". I’m mainly focused on stem cells but except general answers as well. I need some questions that I can use to get the con side’s weakness. Any suggestions?

Point out the all domesticated animals and plants are the result of selective breeding which is a form of genetic engineering. That is, genetic engineering can be defined as the purposeful (to humans) selection of genes that are passed to the next generation. You can also point out the human sexual selection is also a form of genetic engineering because it also determines which genes are passed on. Of course, sexual selection is done by all animals, not just humans.

You can also point out the great success of human insulin created by bacteria in treating diabetes. Also, human growth hormone is produced by bacteria to treat infantile dwarfism. Both of these were created by Genentech.

The fundamental point is not that genetic engineering is good or bad. Like all engineering, it must be done with care. By analogy, you cannot condemn electrical power engineering in general. The electrical energy can be used to keep our homes comfortable as well as powering electric chairs.
Each bit of genetic engineering requires its own analysis.

How do you know God exists and why is your religion the right one?

I see debates all the time on the existence of God [none of which are convincing enough to prove there is]. However, maybe you can give it a shot: How you know he exists and how you know your religion is the right one and not someone else’s…(i.e. God vs. Allah vs. Zeus vs. the flying spaghetti monster)

(ok that last one was just a joke, however equally as ridiculous as the others)

There is no doubt that the number of different religions in the world makes it a challenge to know which one is correct. First, let’s consider some thoughts on the overall subject and then look at how one might approach the topic in a manner that can actually get to a right conclusion about God. The challenge of different answers to a particular issue is not unique to the topic of religion. For example, you can sit 100 math students down, give them a complex problem to solve, and it is likely that many will get the answer wrong. But does this mean that a correct answer does not exist? Not at all. Those who get the answer wrong simply need to be shown their error and know the techniques necessary to arrive at the correct answer.

How are we ever meant to convince people about logic when the standard answer is "God can do anything"?

So they always have the trump card of magical things on their side.

Non believers in monotheism have knowledge and science, which is continuing to discover new things all the time, but if we are trying to convince someone who has closed their ears and blocked their mind to this education, then how could we possibly get through or at least have a reasonable open debate

Science is convincing because it actually achieves things. Modern medicine and technology have not arrived through religion, prayer, or gods. They are the result of analytical science.

Even most christians prefer a good doctor to a priest, when they’re sick.

How many people have been molested or had someone attempt to molest you and by whom?

My huband and I got into a debate about this subject. So, I thought I’d go to everyone and see what they experienced. Were you ever molested or has anyone ever attempted to molest you? Was is someone you know? Was it a male or female that did this? How old were you?
Just so people know, this is not an attempt, per say, to settle a debate. My husband does not understand why I do not trust any man around my children. I am a victim, myself and that is why I feel so strongly about the topic. My husband feels that I’m being unreasonable. I want to show him that there are other people out there that have experienced what I did. There were two attempts on me by people who had close connection with our family.
Forgot, one more ? Did you report it? Wondering how many of these cases go unreported. I never told anyone what had happened to me till I was an adult.

I was 12, when my step-brother, who I thought was my friend molested me. I knew something was wrong but I guess when you’re young and trusting you think there’s no evil in the world. It’s the people who you least expect who would molest your kids, probably a relative, or family member. Most often they gain their trust by showing them attention they never received before and use it against them. They do it because it was done to them, If I were you, I would watch the kids around family members, especially in-laws just to be careful, good luck!
