Surely the appropriate analogy would be to not allow gays to vote? Marriage is just a piece of paper from the government. I agree with you that gay marriage should be legal, but don’t pretend that marriage is as important as voting.

If poverty is the main cause of crime, then please explain the following:
1. The majority of poor people are not criminals.
2. Plenty of Wall Street millionnaires are criminals, yet certainly not poor.
3. In the current economic downturn, there has been increased poverty, but decreased crime.
4. Poor Hispanics commit less crime than equally poor blacks.
5. “Criminals” include rapists and TV-thieves, whose crimes have nothing to do with feeding or sustaining themselves.

@upandopen Well marriage is a government issue because it gives rights to a partner. To advise in medical care, to keep the person in the country if there partner is foreign. It’s a bigger issue then just religion. Religion should have nothing to do with it. if the church doesn’t want gays to get married, then fine, who cares. But the government should see it for legal reasons. It doesn’t even have to be called marriage. Just a partnership.

There’s suppose to be a separation of church and state AND freedom of religion (and freedom from it). I shouldn’t be banned from being married because the Mormons think it’s wrong. If a church/religion doesn’t want to recognize gay marriage then so be it. The government, the law, is/should be a separate entity.
