It is pretty common knowledge that John the disciple is not John the writer of the gospel.
His time lines are very good. What spong is also talking about is Midrash, whereby the writers of the gospels etc are drawing from the OT. The average Christian sees this as incredible.
Isaiah for example does not write all of Isaiah. The fundamentalist beliefs the first five books were written my Moses. We know he didn’t. Moses himself dies, and there are more than 60 styles of literature..

Luke has been called a historian of the first rate by some modern historical scholars. Eyewitness testimony may be more subjective than other types of legal evidences, but the fact remains that it is strong enough to be admitted as evidence in a court of law. It is not conjectural or circumstantial evidence.
