What can I name a social party theme where u debate current event topics NOT related to politics?
I want the theme of my birthday party this year to be a cocktail Party but with a twist. I want us to openly discuss various topics.(which can often turn intoa debate) but I don’t want to call it a "Debate" party because then guests will think its a political party. I don’t want to call it battle of the sexes because I want to discuss various topics from "Brittney Spears" to relationships and so on.
Hmmm, like the other answer, a birthday party might not be the right forum. But, you know your friends best, so here’s an idea.
Prepare the ‘topics’ that you know will be a heated source of discussion on index cards. Gather everyone around a table, or living room, floor, etc. Pull the card- let’s say it says "Birth control handed out in the schools". There’s your topic to discuss and debate. After the conversation died down, pull the next card. Let’s say this one says "Illegal immigrants not granted health care benefits". There’s your next topic of discussion, because in this country, a hospital won’t turn you away-especially a child.
If you prepare your own cards with the topics, you control the issues and can avoid the politics.

Sorry, the whole idea sounds ridiculous to try to orchestrate the conversation of a party in any way. Either have a speaker on a subject, or stop trying to control your guests.
