1. Climate Change — the scientific debate
A basic look at how climate scientists infer that man-made carbon gases are changing the climate, and how this view is contradicted by other climate scientists who are skeptics.
I am a former science correspondent with an interest in reporting the facts, not the media hype. My thanks to 9thgate for checking my script for errors.

Antarctic glacier less stable, sub finds (Reuters 6/20/10)
West Antarctica’s thaw accounts for 10 percent of a recently observed rise in sea levels, with melting of the Pine Island glacier quickening, especially in recent decades, according to the study led by the British Antarctic Survey and published in the journal Nature Geoscience.
Loss of contact with the subsea ridge meant that ice was flowing faster and also thawing more as relatively warmer sea water flowed into an ever bigger cavity.

I wonder what drove up temps 1000 years ago, Armor making factories?
And it’s Anthropogenic Global Warming, not Climate Change, that happens all the time.

WHAT GLOBAL COOLING?
• The combined global land and ocean average surface temperature for May 2010 was 0.69°C (1.24°F) above the 20th century average of 14.8°C (58.6°F). This is the warmest such value on record since 1880.
• The combined global land and ocean average surface temperature for January–May 2010 was the warmest on record. The year-to-date period was 0.68°C (1.22°F) warmer than the 20th century average.

John R. Christy researched two independent data sets, weather balloon and satellite. He found from this information gathered from the bulk of the atmosphere that climate change was neither catastrophic nor anthropogenic. He also stated that increase in surface temperatures in the cities were because of pavement, concrete and other structures and not as a direct result of greenhouse gases. The strength in …
The strength in your argument lies in two places in my opinion; the “settling” of the troposphere climate model disparity, and the variability of the sun’s heat emission. If you are right about those two things I feel that I would have enough evidence to consider you right about climate change.
I’m researching those points and hope to check back with you when I get more answers.
Thank you for energizing me to get into this again, as I thought the argument was moot.

very good video. this has become such a politicised issue its impossible to find anyone talking about the science. and if we’re going to get anything done about it, everyone, or at least most people have to have some understanding of how the science works. thanks for posting.
I found a very …
I found a very interesting site on the subject of US health care: ” Reforming America’s Health Care System – Gary Kaplan MD.” It is the perfect forum to discuss health care. Please do it there. I will have to delete the posts regarding this discussion within a couple of days.
@TheKickerboy99 The …
@TheKickerboy99 The U.S. Health Care “system” is the most wasteful in the world. It spends at least twice what your per-capita cost is in Canada and delivers overall worse performance. More costs, a lower overall standard of service, a large proportion of the population with no regular access. I’ve seen people walking around with gangrene on U.S. streets because the health care system is so crappy they can’t access it. You sir, are an idiot.
@TheKickerboy99 …
@TheKickerboy99 Having your own business is mercantilism. Capitalism is the accumulation of capital under the control of the few for the benefit of the few; like they have in Mexico. The problem with economics and economists is that it’s all crap. It’s hand waving and pseuo-scientific language used to cow the many into going along with thievery by the few.
@Pangolinx1 …
@Pangolinx1 Capitalism pays its debts because it works hard, it does not want the government to solve its problems for it. Did you know the only jobs Obama has created with the 796 billion dollar stimulus are government jobs. How could he know how to create a job, he has never run a business. government jobs don’t make money for the government they cost more for the tax payers, of which there are fewer all the time, thanks to tax and spend policies.
@Pangolinx1 The …
@Pangolinx1 The left will spend us all into oblivion, as is happening right now. How much longer do you think it can continue? The worst thing Obama could have done right now was to bring in a 2300 page healthcare bill that never was read before it was passed. As Nancy said “You’ll just have to pass the bill, so we can see whats in it” You know I think in this falls elections, they will take a well deserved retirement.
@Pangolinx1 Further …
@Pangolinx1 Further having your own business is capitalism. Communism’s problem is that it takes away individual freedoms, in the name of “social justice” If you look at the reasons they are, racial, environment, any issue they can exaggerate, or exacerbate to the point where they can increase the size of government to regulate “this terrible disaster”. If a government is big enough to give you everything, they will be big enough to take it all away. America is a republic, or it was meant to be.
@Pangolinx1 First …
@Pangolinx1 First off the reason the US is the worlds biggest economy, (although China is about to over take them) is because of capitalism. I have no problem figuring out my banking, credit cards, insurance. I live in Canada so I already have socialized health care. Its not all it made out to be, re: our rich always going to the US for quicker, better healthcare. The US is about to find out about that. I don’t take weekends off very often, I work hard, harder than you ever could imagine. cont.
@TheKickerboy99 …
@TheKickerboy99 Tell us how capitalism is “helping the little guy.” Can you figure out your banks terms and conditions? How about your credit cards? Or your insurance company’s. Unless you are a lawyer you can’t.
Do you take weekends off? Thank the Left. Do you have a relative on Medicare or Social Security? That’s left-wing socialism at work. Sorry but the Right has a serious problem with “reality;” they can’t recognize it.

Oh boy so many …
Oh boy so many experts on everything here. You all seem to be far left loonie toons. Trying to bring you all to some form of reason is beyond my patience level. Listening to you all bash capitalism,(the only system of government that helps the little guy, that promotes people to try to succeed in life, makes me a little worried. News flash for ya, there is no free lunch. The US is getting closer to Greece everyday because of wimpy leftwing communists like Pangolinx1 and obaeyens.
@TheKickerboy99 How …
@TheKickerboy99 How about the decline in arctic sea ice. See the NSIDC web site; sea ice is declining faster than ever in recorded history. Millions of tons of ice don’t care about your denierfag credentials.
@TheKickerboy99 …
@TheKickerboy99 Capitalism is destroying itself. The progressive movement did not loot the giant banks; Wall Street did. The progressive movement did not loot Enron and PG&E, conservatives did. Progressives have been pointing out that oil is a limited resource and burning it pollutes the ground and the atmosphere for 45 years. Conservatives have reinforced our dependence on oil instead of transportation systems that could be powered by electricity from wind.
Conservatives are failures.
