What are some good questions to ask at a school debate between democrats and republicans?
In my Government class my teacher who is a democrat is going to debate against the economics teacher who is a republican. They want the students to come with 3 questions for them to debate on and I am having trouble with coming up with some. They can be on any current issue.
Ask them to debate the benefits (either positive or negative) of "generational welfare." If you don’t understand what that it is, it is families that have been on welfare for two or more generations; for example, a 21 year old mother who is on welfare, and her 40 year old mother who is on welfare and HER 60 year old mother who is on welfare.
Would the 40 year old mother still be collecting welfare if HER 60 year old mother had not spent her lifetime collecting welfare? Would the 21 year old already be a mother collecting welfare if she had not learned that behavior from both her mother and her grandmother? What prevented any of them from working or getting an education? What examples/incentives did the 40 year old and the 21 year old have to get a job? Has this harmed or helped them in the long run? Would the government be doing a greater service to poor people by making obtaining education a requirement of receiving welfare?
Be sure you take snacks and a video camera with very good audio capabilities to class. That will be a very educational debate, one way or the other.

This sounds like a very slanted debate…
They should find two Government teachers or two Economics teachers. The Economics teacher will probably not be able to bring weighty pol-sci arguments as he does not have the training in the discipline.
