    “a chasm of …
    “a chasm of tautology yawns at the feet of all those who go in for this?” yet no explanation of why this argument begs the question? Surely we could see the ‘Chasm’ if that line made sense. Really we miss Dr. Stanley Jaki here, a pity he is gone.

    Well done Dinesh. …
    Well done Dinesh. Right on every point. Additionally, Hitchens did not dispute your initial argument in any substantive way, and he filibustered on an argument that he was fully familiar with and should have had an answer. Further , the line from Dostoevsky at the end is so true; and yes they do want to drive religion from the public square; you know Mr. Hitchens and his self cultured egotism well.

    orbis2009 Ladies and gentlemen, may we at least have a moment of silence in memory of renowned Atheist-rurned-deist Antony Flew who Died at 87 last month? Thank you very much. One small step for the media…

  4. DIsnesh always use …
    DIsnesh always use the same arguments and they are clearly rehearsed. I don’t think he even notice his contradiction.. For goodness sake he believe in the bible, clearly “thinking” is one of his weaknesses.

    Doesn’t it seem …
    Doesn’t it seem like Hitchens acquiesces to Dinesh’s argument about the fine-tuned universe? ’some design, some designer’.

  6. I’m so tired of …
    I’m so tired of this “the universe is fine tuned, if things were just a little off, blah blah blah” argument. If things were different then things would be different. The result we have now is now somehow intrinsically fine tuned.

    If the universe is fine tuned why are we on a collision course with the Andromeda Galaxy?

  7. I would love to see …
    I would love to see Hitchens debate someone at his own intellectual level if only once, his opponents always seem to resort to rantism.

    @LordMalice6d9 Yeah …
    @LordMalice6d9 Yeah. That’s the truth of it. No proof. In fact, Hitler, in many of his speeches and writing, warns of the spread of atheism from the Soviet Union and how it will undermine his efforts and stuff. Not to mention that Hitler and Himmler were huge fans of Martin Luther of the Protestant Reformation. His views on Jewish people were what Hitler worked on.

    @Chuichupachichi, …
    @Chuichupachichi, Saying evolution was resposible for Hitler’s Final Solution is laughable, the only thing Nazis had in common with evolution was how much they misunderstood and bastardized it, Eugenics was founded by Francis Galton the half cousin of Drawin which Darwin rejected. The Nazis basically took any scientific and philosophical idea they could and distorted it into supporting their bigotted policies. Much of what the Nazis practiced was psuedo science at best.

    @Swiftlygothedays ” …
    @Swiftlygothedays “Where is proof that Hitler was an atheists”.

    There is no proof Hitler was an atheist and fundamentalist christians know it.
    Christian fundamentalists have tried to whitewash the fact that there is a deep seeded murderous anti-semitism within certain Christian theologies and in the New Testament, it was the Apostle Paul who refered to Jews as “Christ Killers”
    But you will never hear a Christian willing to admit it, because Christians know they have no defense.

    @Chuichupachichi, …
    @Chuichupachichi, Western civilization is an algamation of various ideals and cultures ranging from Ancient Roman and Greek societies, English common law, the age of Enlightenment and heavy doses of Judeo-Christian thought thrown into one great big melting pot.
    There is no such thing as “pure culture”, If Dinesh is going to comment about Christianity influencing western civilization, he should also mention the other cultures that influenced it. Seems to me Dinesh is ignorant of history.

    I am dissapointed …
    I am dissapointed of both Hitchens and D’Souza they are both nowehre near the great debators they are made out to be. They both are abismally ignorant of history, scientific arguments and philosophy.

    google Doe’s Account, mindblowing.

  14. @hemet92544 …
    @hemet92544 Certainly people have been murdered in the name of Jesus…I don’t know if Hitler ever murdered anyone himself either, btw. MLKs message was largely Black supremacist – I wouldn’t be surprised if people had been murdered for him – and Ghandi used to give girls enemas with a hose to ‘purify’ them. It seems somewhat foolish to put faith in humans for their apparent inscrutability…what we should put our faith in is quantified and peer reviewed science.

  15. @jcantlie
    yea but …

    @jcantlie
    yea but those peeps murdered millions, Jesus, Ghandi, MLK didnt murder anyone

  16. @hemet92544 Who has …
    @hemet92544 Who has not preached in the name of love to attain power? Hitler/Mussolini – for love of the predestined pure people. Stalin/Marx/Lenin/Pot – for love of the working class. Ayatollah Khomeini /Mohammad /Jesus /Torquemada…etc. – For love of God. Nobody paves the way to empire without winning the hearts of their people – unless they are given their empire through other means.

  17. USSR, not religious …
    USSR, not religious, just during Stalins rule killed or imprisoned into gulags or by simple express execution over 12 million people.

    If there is no evil in this world, and that evil is just a state of mind, why then, has everyone that has come along in history that preached in the name of love, was murdered. Think about it.

    I like how this …
    I like how this cuts out right before Hitchens gives his rebuttal.

    Also, Marx went against religion, because he saw it as a way of controlling the people. Which it did. D’Souza is the one who is ignorant of history. The catholic church has committed atrocities in the name of religion. It’s not only ignorant to say religion stops murder, but, for lack of a better phrase, completely retarded.

    History has taught …
    History has taught Dinesh NOTHING. What a fool. The universe is fine-tuned not for us, we are here because the universe can give rise to us. Men in history fail in having this doomed perception that they are the center of the universe. What a grandiose presumption! Jesus thought he was the center of mankind, men thought the sun revolved around us, then men thought the universe went around us…you get the picture? religious people are doomed to this type of perception

  22. Swiftlygothedays on May 4th, 2010 at 7:27 am

    Where is proof that Hitler was an atheist?
