The Fordham Law School Federalist Society hosted this debate between David Epstein, Professor of Political Economy at Columbia University, and Peter Schiff, President of Euro Pacific Capital and U.S. Senate Candidate from Connecticut. Moderated by Fordham Law Professor Nicholas Johnson.

The topic: “Will the Obama Administrations economic policies lead to prosperity or disaster?”

    The difference in population from 1940 – now is about 200 million. Thats one obvious reason. Also you forget, as many leftist stooges do, to include the fact that the top bracket of taxable income has been DECREASED to include people who make LESS over the period of time you use above. Moron.

    In the 1940s the top tax rate was around88%. In the 1950s it was 91%. In the 1960s and 1970s it was 70%. In the 1980s it was 50%. Now it’s 36% and we have the biggest deficit and debt in history. You can’t tell me we can’t raise it just a little bit especially considering the situation we’re in now. Conservatives want it both ways. They don’t want to see deficits and debt but they don’t want to cough up the $ it takes to operate in the black. Reducing debt reduces taxes for all in the long run.

    Can somone tell me why we can’t just TAX the top 5% to get the money to stimulate the econ. instead of borrowing? Eisenhower raised the top tax rate to 91% to pay for WWII and then the 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s seemed okay. Also, who’s to say that the new regulations coming down the pike won’t include new rules for the Fed? Obama set up a commision by executive order for that very thing and some Repubs are distancing themselves from it. Afraid it might work?

    Epstein is a dumb who couldn’t answer the tough questions. This wants to gamble the U.S. economy and everything else attached to it based on what he saw in the last few decades as justificaction that gov. intervention thru inflationary policies work.
