Has legitimate political debate become a thing of the past?

Is a place like Yahoo answers a productive form of political debate?
Great answers!
Clearly the system of competition put in place is there only to stimulate the continuation of the blog, the answer with the most thumbs up is the right answer only shows the current condition of the community in that instant in time.
Do you believe that the back and forth changes how people think or is our pride in belief systems too stubborn because of the extreme political environment we are in? a collaboration would be awesome.

Absolutely not. Debate is back and forth, y/a is whoever can post the best answer or get the most thumbs ups
